Jenner & Block Partner Andrew W. Vail has been selected to receive the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) 2014 Distinguished Fellow Alumni Award.  Founded in 1977, PILI is a nonprofit whose mission is to “cultivate a lifelong commitment to public interest law and pro bono service within the Illinois legal community to expand the availability of legal services for people, families and communities in need.”

In naming Andrew for the honor, the PILI Board and Awards Committee noted that, since his service in 2003 as a PILI Fellow at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, he has remained “extremely dedicated to pro bono work and serving those in need.”

In particular, the Awards Committee focused on Andrew’s involvement in two recent and high-profile pro bono indigent criminal defense cases – People v.Koh and People v.Rivera – as well as his recently concluded four-year tenure as a member of PILI’s board of directors and his role as co-chair of Jenner & Block’s Pro Bono Committee.

The award will be presented to Andrew at PILI’s Annual Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Palmer House Hilton, an event that is generally attended by nearly 500 lawyers from all sectors of the Illinois legal community – law firms, corporate law departments, law schools and the public interest law community.
