October 17, 2014

The week of October 19 – 25, 2014, has been designated National Pro Bono Celebration Week by the American Bar Association and Jenner & Block’s Chicago and Washington, DC offices are marking the week with special activities.

The national initiative began five years ago to focus the country’s attention on the ever-increasing need for pro bono services and to celebrate the outstanding work of lawyers who volunteer their services throughout the year.  It is patterned on the Chicago Bar Association-Chicago Bar Foundation Pro Bono Week that, this year, celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Jenner & Block Partner E. Lynn Grayson is co-chair of the weeklong CBA-CBF citywide observance that will include numerous events, both social and educational.  Among these, Jenner & Block is hosting a “Breakfast With Judges” on October 24, 2014, co-sponsored by the Illinois Judges Association and the Seventh Circuit Bar Association.  Members of the judiciary, including Northern District of Illinois Chief Judge Ruben Castillo and Illinois Appellate Court Judge Michael Hyman (who, as CBA president in 2005, launched Chicago’s Pro Bono Week), will lead conversations about pro bono in the Chicago area, with small roundtable discussions offering attendees the opportunity to participate.  Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the program will run from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.  For additional information about all activities planned for the week and to register, please click here.

The firm’s DC office will “Go Casual for Justice” during Pro Bono Week.  This “jeans day” fundraiser has become the largest source of funding for the DC Bar Foundation’s private loan repayment assistance program benefiting the District’s legal aid providers.  All those who donate $5 or more to the cause are invited to wear jeans to work on Friday, October 24.  For more information about the fundraiser, please click here.  For information about other events planned by the DC Bar Foundation in observance of the week, please click here.
