Jenner & Block Partner Ronald R. Peterson will be honored on October 9, 2014, with the Commercial Law League of America’s Lawrence P. King Award for Excellence in the Field of Bankruptcy. The award was created in 2001 to recognize a lawyer, judge, teacher or legislator who exemplifies the best in scholarship, advocacy, judicial administration or legislative activities in the field of bankruptcy.
The Commercial Law League notes that the King Award recognizes “a career, not an event.” Ron’s selection marks the first time in the award’s history that it is being presented to a bankruptcy practitioner. Senator Elizabeth Warren and retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens are among previous recipients.
The award is named for Lawrence P. King, a longtime professor at the New York University Law School, who served for 21 years on the Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules of the Judicial Conference of the United States; consulted with the Commission of the Bankruptcy Laws of the United States in the early 1970s, which led to the present Bankruptcy Code of 1978; and was editor-in-chief of the treatise Collier on Bankruptcy.
Ron is a member of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Workout and Corporate Reorganization; Complex Bankruptcy Litigation; Corporate Finance; and Real Estate and Construction Litigation Practices. He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Commercial Law League of America and the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the Business Law Section and the Bankruptcy Litigation Committee of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association. Ron also is a Director of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and is a member of INSOL International (International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals). Since 2003, Chambers & Partners has named him one of the country’s leading lawyers in bankruptcy law.
Ron will be presented with the award at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago during the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges 88th Annual Meeting.
