Jenner & Block is once again recognized among the “50 Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers.  The honor lauds the firm’s family-friendly policies and business development and career development initiatives that help to retain and promote women attorneys.  Jenner & Block has been placed on the list each year since 2008.  According to the recent announcement, “this firm clearly supports the advancement of women: In 2013, its female leaders included managing partner Susan Levy and the COO, CFO, CTO and CMO. New business development workshops and a women’s forum engage partners.”  According to the firm’s winning nomination: women continue to serve in leadership roles in several core practice groups; women partners serve as strong role models for junior women attorneys; and the firm’s Women’s Forum continues to provide programs that empower women to build their practices, further the work-life balance and offer a platform for junior partners to exercise their leadership skills.

In an accompanying article titled “The Rule Breakers,” Partner Susan J. Kohlmann recalls one of her earliest opportunities for advancement – the day when a circuit court argument in a pro bono prisoner case was scheduled when the senior associate was busy with other matters.  Susan offered to take responsibility even though she had no experience arguing such cases at that point.  “I said, ‘Yes, I can do that, no problem.  Once I did it and argued the case, people looked at me as someone perfectly willing and able to stand up in court,” said Susan, who today is chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee; chair of the Trademark, Advertising, and Unfair Competition Practice; and a member of the firm’s Policy Committee.  Flex-Time Lawyers LLC is an international consulting firm, and Working Mother Media publishes Working Mother magazine.  The recognized law firms are featured in the August/September issue of the magazine and on and
