For the second year in a row, Jenner & Block Partner Richard L. Stone has been named a “Top Intellectual Property Litigator” by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal. Rick was recognized for his work in the “Copyright” area, and he is profiled in an article in the April 10 issue of the publication.
The article focuses on Rick’s win for Fox Broadcasting in the Utah District Court, in Fox’s closely watched copyright dispute with online streaming service Aereo, Inc. In February, U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball granted Fox a preliminary injunction blocking Aereo from rebroadcasting Fox and other networks’ copyrighted content within the geographic reach of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals – Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming.
In March, the Tenth Circuit denied Aereo’s bid to stay the Utah court’s injunction until the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments later this month in ABC v. Aereo, in which Rick and his team are also representing Fox.
The Daily Journal noted that the lawyers chosen for recognition were selected from hundreds of nominations and that the work they handle is “critical to the future of the entertainment, medical and technology industries.” The editors concluded, “It’s an increasingly difficult group to choose, but the impressive and diverse array of talent from across California is testimony to the state’s leadership in intellectual property law.”
