Jenner & Block Partner Mercedes M. Hill was recently named to the Lawyers of Color’s second annual “Hot List” of early to mid-career minority attorneys under 40 who are excelling in the legal profession. Ms. Hill was one of only 100 minority attorneys from the Midwest Region to receive the honor. This was her second time to be selected, having also been named to the inaugural “Hot List” in 2013.
Ms. Hill is a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity/Investment Funds and Corporate Finance Practices. She has been involved in a number of important transactions, including the historic General Motors IPO, the “Section 363” sale of GM assets in connection with its Chapter 11 reorganization and the post-IPO $5.5 billion share repurchase transaction in 2012. She has also represented other significant clients, including General Dynamics, KPS Capital Partners, Honeywell and Sam Zell.
Ms. Hill is a member of the firm's Hiring Committee, a leader of the African American Affinity Group and a former member of the Associate Board of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. She serves as pro bono legal counsel to Ladies of Virtue, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of young women in underserved communities.
Lawyers of Color was established in 2008 to report news of importance to black legal professionals and has now expanded to include lawyers of South Asian, Hispanic, Native American and other heritages. The media and research company now has the largest national social media presence of any minority legal organization.
Ms. Hill was profiled in a special Lawyers of Color Hot List 2014 issue in July.
