The Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing has named Jenner & Block its “Law Firm of the Year” for 2013.  Partner John R. Storino and Associate Edward T. Mansell accepted the award on behalf of the firm at the annual LCBH Reception and Awards Ceremony held recently at the firm's Chicago Conference Center.  A photo of LCBH Executive Director Cheryl Lawrence presenting them with the award appeared on the front page of the October 29 edition of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.

The Lawyers’ Committee press release announcing the award noted, “The Law Firm of the Year award is presented when a firm’s pro bono contributions to LCBH or its mission are so significant that it creates an impact well into the future.  The contributions that Jenner & Block have made this year to the health and future of LCBH, our pro bono efforts and to our clients cannot be overestimated.”

In particular, the LCBH acknowledged the firm for guiding it through a move it was forced to make in a short 90-day timeframe, when the new owner of its building unexpectedly terminated all the leases to convert it into a boutique hotel.  Describing the sudden eviction as presenting “insurmountable odds,” LCBH thanked Jenner & Block for negotiating the lease agreement for new space at 33 N. LaSalle and helping the agency move on time and with as little disruption to client services as possible.  Ed, Kristen M. Boike and Michelle M. McAtee accomplished this feat.

The nonprofit also recognized the firm's attorneys for providing high level pro bono legal services, which allows LCBH to engage more resources to serve clients and provide outcomes not otherwise possible.

John serves LCBH as its board vice-president and Som P. Dalal is a member of the Committee’s Young Professionals Board.  Other attorneys who volunteer for the agency include Christine L. Childers and Michaelene R. Martin.
