Jenner & Block Partner Terrence J. Truax is featured in Law360’s “Q&A with Jenner & Block’s Terrence Truax.” Terry responds to five questions about his career and practice area: 1. his most challenging case (a dispute over the use of a series of alleged IP rights and other trade secrets that involved a significant volume of detailed communication); 2. an area of his practice that needs reform (the increasing volume of litigation initiated by non-practicing entities); 3. an important case or issue (Lighting Ballast Control v. Phillips Electronics, regarding what level of deference should be given to a district court’s conclusion on claim construction); 4. an attorney in his field who has impressed him (Jeff Chase; Ann Frick; Peter Wexler; Barbara Daniele); and 5. a lesson he learned early in his career (from a judge: that the “art of cross-examination does not mean that you must examine crossly”).
Terry co-chairs the Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice and is a member of the Antitrust/Competition Law and Class Action practice groups. He serves clients in the United States and in Asia on a variety of complex intellectual property, antitrust and commercial litigation matters. He has tried matters to verdict (jury and bench) in federal and state courts throughout the United States in both first and second chair roles.
