Firm Wins Acquittal for Chicago Pro Bono Client Calvin Marshall, Charged with First-Degree Murder

A Jenner & Block team successfully defended a pro bono client against first-degree murder charges dating back to June 2009.  The Firm prevailed with a rare not-guilty verdict on May 14, 2012, after a six-day jury trial at The Honorable George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building in Chicago.  The client, Calvin Marshall, was released from the Cook County Jail the evening following the verdict, and the very next morning, Mr. Marshall reported to a full-time job waiting for him at PC Rebuilders & Recyclers, an electronics recycling business on the city’s North Side.  Mr. Marshall then obtained his GED diploma and he is now a successful college student while he continues to work at PC Rebuilders & Recyclers.  Mr. Marshall’s legal team included Partners Terrence J. Truax and Kristopher R. Kiel and Associates Sarah F. Weiss and Chad J. Ray.
