Jenner & Block Partner Andrew Weissmann will speak at a Corporate Criminal Law Conference, “Achieving the Right Balance: The Role of Corporate Criminal Law in Ensuring Corporate Compliance,” on April 21, 2009. The event is sponsored by the US Chamber Institute for Legal Reform and is hosted by Georgetown University Law Center and the American Criminal Law Review.
Mr. Weissmann will be the lead-off speaker, addressing corporate criminal liability. He will discuss the history and current state of the law as it relates to corporate prosecutions. Mr. Weissmann will be joined in the discussion by Kathy Ruemmler, Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General, U.S. Department of Justice; Professor Sara Sun Beale, Charles L.B. Lowndes Professor, Duke University School of Law; and Professor Pamela H. Bucy, Bainbridge Professor of Law, University of Alabama School, among others. The keynote speaker will be Larry D. Thompson, Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of PepsiCo, Inc.
Mr. Weissmann is a co-chair of the Firm's White Collar Defense & Investigations practice. He is the former Enron Task Force Director, Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, and Special Counsel to the Director of the FBI. An internationally-recognized white collar litigator, Mr. Weissmann’s practice concentrates on internal corporate compliance and investigations, including representation before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and state and local authorities. He has tried numerous criminal and civil cases, including recently winning the largest FINRA arbitration award ever.
