Jenner & Block Partner Andrew Weissmann will speak at the Northwestern Law Judicial Symposium on April 20, 2009 at Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, IL. Mr. Weissmann will present the topic, “Criminalization of Corporate Conduct.”
Mr. Weissmann will give a review and critique of the growth of corporate criminal prosecutions, and the current doctrine of vicarious corporate criminal liability. He will discuss various alternative theories to strict vicarious liability and discuss the Firm's recent efforts at the forefront of changing the criminal law as it applies to corporate criminal liability.
Mr. Weissmann is a co-chair of the Firm's White Collar Defense & Investigations practice. He is the former Enron Task Force Director, Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, and Special Counsel to the Director of the FBI. An internationally-recognized white collar litigator, Mr. Weissmann’s practice concentrates on internal corporate compliance and investigations, including representation before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and state and local authorities. He has tried numerous criminal and civil cases, including recently winning the largest FINRA arbitration award ever.
