Jenner & Block Associate Olivia T. Luk will speak at the spring event of the Young Members Committee of the Illinois Property Law Association of Chicago (IPLAC) on Thursday, March 1, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Ms. Luk will be a member of a panel of distinguished Chicago-based IP attorneys who will discuss and give practical tips on the best way to secure a position, keep that position, and excel as an attorney in the IP field.  Ms. Luk will offer valuable advice for any new or newer associate first entering the field on how to manage their time effectively, build their book of business, and approach partners for work.  The event, which will take place at Nixon Peabody LLP, 300 S. Riverside Plaza, Chicago, is co-sponsored by The Practising Law Institute (PLI).

Ms. Luk is an associate in the Firm’s Litigation Department and a member of the Patent Litigation and Counseling and Technology Litigation Practices.  She has significant experience litigating intellectual property issues, including use of procedures available before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  In the area of intellectual property rights, she has worked on cases involving patents, trade secrets and copyrights and representing technologies including computer engineering, electrical engineering, metallurgy, nanotechnology, software design, and mechanical engineering.  She also has experience before the International Trade Commission.

Ms. Luk is co-founder and President of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court in Chicago and co-founder of the Linn Inn Alliance and, in 2011, she was honored with the inaugural Linn Inn Alliance Distinguished Service Medal and the American Inns of Court’s Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service.  Ms. Luk also has leadership roles in IPLAC, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Federal Circuit Bar Association.
