Jenner & Block Partner Brent E. Kidwell will speak during Q1 Productions’ 2nd Annual “eDiscovery For the Life Science Industry” conference, being held on February 27-28, 2012, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. Kidwell will speak in panel discussions titled “Living in a World of Social Networks: Understanding the Impact on eDiscovery Practices,” and “The Future of Records Management Technology.” The first discussion addresses the effects of the explosion of social media and web 2.0 on life science companies, necessitating policies and procedures surrounding social media usage within and outside the workplace and challenging eDiscovery teams to deal with data privacy and data security issues, develop best strategies for monitoring communication on social media sites, and communicate policies and procedures to employees. The second panel discussion focuses on how eDiscovery teams can stay updated and look for future trends in technology in order to remain at the forefront of eDiscovery.

Mr. Kidwell is the Firm’s Chief Knowledge Counsel.  Leveraging years of experience as a commercial litigator, he helps clients proactively prepare for electronic discovery and reactively implement strategies and plans for collecting, processing, analyzing and producing data in litigation.  Mr. Kidwell has assisted clients in managing terabytes of data efficiently and cost-effectively for some of the Firm’s largest matters.  He also advises clients on digital forensics, information and records management strategies, and data security, protection and privacy issues. Mr. Kidwell is the lead author of a consistently updated and comprehensive treatise on e-discovery titled Electronic Discovery, published by Law Journal Press and is an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University College of Law where he teaches one of the country’s first (and few) law school courses on electronic discovery.  Mr. Kidwell is a nationally-known speaker at conferences and other events on e-discovery, information and records management, data security, and information security and risk management issues.  He has also given many presentations on topics related to knowledge management.
