On May 20, 2005, Jenner & Block will host TechLaw Group, Inc.’s Spring CLE Program entitled, “Doing Business and Doing Battle in the Digital Age: Rewards and Risks of e-Advances in Transactions and Litigation,” at the Firm’s Chicago office. The one-day complimentary program will examine the benefits and risks inherent in electronic deal making and modern litigation.
Partner Brent E. Kidwell, the Firm’s Chief Knowledge Counsel and recent recipient of Law Technology News’ Champion of Technology Award, will speak at the 9:15 a.m. session entitled, “Deal Making in the 21st Century – Negotiating and Closing the Electronic Deal.” Mr. Kidwell will discuss the use of, and potential problems with, metadata in litigating a deal.
Partners Debbie L. Berman and Daniel J. Winters will speak at the 1:30 p.m. session entitled, “Doing Battle in the 21st Century – Avoiding and Exploiting the Litigation Landmines Created by Doing Business Electronically.” Ms. Berman will discuss the proper use of e-mail and customization of e-mail retention policies. Mr. Winters will discuss computer forensics, addressing the tracking of information on an opponent’s hard drive, use of advanced technology to mine e-mail files, and admission of forensics evidence.
The Honorable Herbert Dixon of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia will provide the keynote speech, entitled, "Challenges and Obligations for Courts, Lawyers and Clients in the Era of Technology."
Managing Partner Gregory S. Gallopoulos will deliver the conference’s welcoming remarks, and Partner Marshall J. Schmitt, Co-Chair of TechLaw Group, Inc.’s Meetings and Programs Committee, will give the opening and closing remarks.
