Partner Richard F. Ziegler is Co-Chair of a PLI "Corporate Compliance and Ethics Institute" program on June 10-11, 2010 at the PLI New York Center in New York City. Partner Andrew Weissmann will participate in the program, along with in-house counsel at Microsoft, on a panel titled "When Something (Allegedly) Goes Wrong: From Receipt of a Concern Through Investigation." In addition to co-chairing the program, Mr. Ziegler will lead an interactive exercise on "Benchmarking the Critical Elements of Your Program" and moderate a panel discussion with the compliance director of Pfizer titled "The Role of the Board." The rest of the faculty is drawn from major corporations, compliance and ethics organizations, law firms, academia, and the government, and the program will discuss current developments in the regulatory environment, satisfying government standards, best practices, global compliance expectations, and other topics of importance to anyone involved in the substantive or procedural aspects of corporate compliance and ethics. There will be a simultaneous live webcast of the seminar available for individual viewing.
Mr. Ziegler is Managing Partner of the Firm's New York office, co-chair of the Firm's International Arbitration Practice and former co-chair of the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice. Drawing on his experience as the former Vice-President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel of the 3M Company in St. Paul, Minnesota, Mr. Ziegler is a frequent author and speaker on compliance and governance matters. He has published on the role of the board of directors in corporate compliance programs and wrote the chapter on FCPA compliance programs in a treatise titled Practicing Under the U.S. Anti-Corruption Laws that was published in 2010.
Mr. Weissmann, a nationally recognized white collar litigator, is Co-Chair of the Firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice. He writes and lectures widely on compliance and other white collar matters, speaking in the U.S. and overseas to private and public companies, boards of directors, professional associations, conferences and law schools. Mr. Weissmann took a leadership role in originating, writing, and editing The Ethics and Compliance Handbook: A Practical Guide for Leading Organizations, a first-of-its-kind resource published by the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association which aims to create an industry-wide standard for ethics and compliance programs. In 2007 he was named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics” by Ethisphere magazine.
