Jenner & Block Partners Richard F. Ziegler, Jessie K. Liu and Robert S. Osborne will participate in a Litigation Department Spotlight Live Seminar Series event titled, "Keeping Your Company Out of Trouble in China: Anti-Corruption Developments and Compliance Strategies,” being held on January 26, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m in Jenner & Block’s New York office on the 37th floor. This event will also be held on January 27, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m in the Chicago office on the 45th floor.
This seminar will cover anti-corruption efforts in China that are fundamentally altering China’s business climate and corporate deal-making activities, as well as anti-corruption and compliance programs and best practices. John Chu, Esq., a partner in the Jun He Law Offices in Beijing, Ted Hawkins, a partner with the Chicago office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr. Ziegler and Ms. Liu will participate in the panel discussion, which will be moderated by Mr. Osborne.
Mr. Chu will discuss recent anti-corruption developments in China and provide an overview of legal and regulatory developments. Mr. Chu will also cover the scope of permissible gift giving from both a legal and cultural perspective. Mr. Chu formerly served as in-house counsel for two telecommunications companies and General Motors Corporation in Beijing.
Mr. Hawkins will discuss due diligence and accounting perspectives. As a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Forensic Services Investigation division, Mr. Hawkins evaluates and helps clients address complex business issues, as well as actively assist counsel to develop and execute investigative strategies.
Mr. Ziegler will discuss compliance strategies for U.S. companies with international operations. Mr. Ziegler is Managing Partner of Jenner & Block’s New York office. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Ziegler served as Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel of the 3M Company in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Ms. Liu will discuss best practices for compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Ms. Liu is a partner in the Firm’s Litigation Department and is a member of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice. Ms. Liu returned to Jenner & Block after more than six years with the U.S. Department of Justice. Most recently, she served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division.
Mr. Osborne will moderate the seminar and is a Partner in Jenner & Block’s Chicago office and a member of the Corporate Practice. Mr. Osborne counsels clients on acquisitions, joint ventures and capital markets transactions as well as compliance, corporate governance and disclosure matters. He is the former Group Vice President and General Counsel of General Motors Corporation.
