Jenner & Block Partner Andrew Weissmann will speak at the first St. Petersburg International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, on May 20, 2011.  The Forum, which is being held by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum Foundation, will bring together leading world experts in economics and law to discuss ideas related to modernizing the Russian legal system in light of trends in the Russian and world economies.  The program will include addresses by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

Mr. Weissmann will participate in a round table discussion titled “Justice on the Guard of Business: Modern Instruments of Enhancement of Accessibility and Efficiency of Justice and Alternative Dispute Resolution.”  The discussion will address such issues as how to remove corruption from the court system; how to achieve consistency in application of the law and conformity in juridical practice; how to increase investor faith in Russian courts; and which is more effective and appealing – Russian state courts or arbitration.

Mr. Weissmann is Co-Chair of Jenner & Block’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice.  A former Director of the Enron Task Force, Chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York, and Special Counsel to the Director of the FBI, he represents U.S. and foreign corporations and executives in criminal and civil investigations, including representation before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and state and local authorities.  Mr. Weissmann recently secured a $431 million award for STMicroelectronics N.V., the largest award ever made by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) in its history, in an auction-rate securities case against Credit Suisse.
