"Federal Prosecution of Corporations: The Effect of U.S. v. Stein on DOJ and SEC Policies," Ethics & Compliance Officer Association Webcast

Jenner & Block Partner Andrew Weissmann and Associate Ana R. Bugan will participate in an Ethics & Compliance Officer Association webcast seminar entitled “Federal Prosecution of Corporations: The Effect of US v. Stein on DOJ and SEC Policies,” to be held August 9, 2006 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST.

Mr. Weissmann and Ms. Bugan will discuss the central holdings and legal bases of the two recent decisions in U.S. v. Stein, and comment on how the decisions may impact the Department of Justice’s and Securities & Exchange Commission’s approaches to defining so-called “cooperation” by corporations.  They will also address upcoming Congressional hearings on the Thompson Memorandum, which sets forth nine factors for U.S. Attorneys to consider in deciding whether to investigate, charge, or negotiate a plea with an organization accused of wrongdoing.

Mr. Weissmann, who is the former Enron Task Force Director and former Chief of the Criminal Division in the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, and Ms. Bugan recently co-authored a Jenner & Block Client Alert and an article in The Deal regarding the Stein case.
