“Bankruptcy Law and Procedure From Start to Finish,” National Business Institute, Chicago, IL

Jenner & Block Partner Ronald R. Peterson will speak at a National Business Institute’s event entitled, “Bankruptcy Law and Procedure From Start to Finish” to be held on June 14, at the Hyatt Regency, in Chicago, Illinois.  The seminar will discuss the newly enacted Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA) and will cover the critical changes in the BAPCPA code and the nuances of its provisions. 

Mr. Peterson will focus his remarks on professional retention and payment under the new law.  Other discussion topics will include:

  • Examining the new creditor's rights in compelling the debtor to reaffirm, abandon or redeem collateral.
  • Aligning practice methods with the new duties and liabilities of representing a consumer debtor.
  • Confidently advising clients on the new fast track approach to small business Chapter 11 filings.
  • Comparing new defenses to preference actions with new tools for trustees under the fraudulent transfer laws.
  • Being prepared for more stringent guidelines for means testing.
  • Effectively representing clients, whether debtors or creditors, in Chapter 7, 11 or 13.
