Jenner & Block serves as the Presenting Sponsor of InsideCounsel’s SuperConference, which will be held on May 20-21 at The Fairmont in Chicago.  Jenner & Block has repeatedly served as a lead sponsor for the SuperConference, which is now in its eighth consecutive year.

This year’s conference will feature sessions discussing EU success strategies, internet piracy, suggestions for building a winning IP portfolio, the ever-changing world of insurance coverage, FCPA compliance tactics, best practices for litigation holds, and insights into how large companies can minimize antitrust risk in light of recent Supreme Court decisions, among other topics.

Sam Zell, chairman and chief executive officer of the Tribune Company, will be one of the 2008 SuperConference keynote speakers.  Mr. Zell’s vast array of investments includes interests in finance, energy, transportation, communications and real estate. He became chairman and chief executive officer of the Tribune Company in December 2007, after financing the sale of the public company to a private Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).  Jenner & Block was the lead law firm representing Mr. Zell in the $8.2 billion going-private transaction.

Jenner & Block Partner Lorelie S. Masters will speak on May 20 at a 9:45 a.m. session titled, “The Ever-Changing World of Insurance Coverage,” which will discuss the dangers inherent in exclusion clauses and address factors such as climate change, terrorism and corporate fraud.  Ms. Masters, the current President of the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia, has advised and represented companies and individuals seeking to enforce insurance coverage under general liability, directors & officers, first-party property, health, and other types of insurance.

Partner Andrew Weissmann will speak on May 20 at an 11:30 a.m. session titled, “When the Feds Come Knocking,” which will include advice on crafting response strategies to DOJ and SEC investigations.  Mr. Weissmann, the former Enron Task Force Director and former Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, concentrates his practice on internal corporate compliance and investigations.

Partner Michael T. Wolf will speak on May 20 at an 11:30 a.m. session titled, “The Dealmaker’s Playbook,” which will provide tactics drawn from top dealmakers on keeping mergers & acquisitions afloat.  Michael T. Wolf is a partner in the Corporate Department of Jenner & Block’s Chicago office and has a diverse mergers & acquisitions practice, having represented financial and strategic buyers and sellers in connection with a wide variety of transaction structures across a broad array of industries.

Partner Richard F. Ziegler will speak on May 20 at a 2:30 p.m. and on May 21 at 10:00 a.m. at sessions titled, “An In-House Perspective on Professional Responsibility,” which will discuss the ethical challenges in-house counsel face in balancing their legal and business roles, responding to executive misconduct and dealing with clients that contravene their advice.  Mr. Ziegler is the former General Counsel of 3M and the former Chairman of the Committee on Professional Ethics of the New York State Bar Association.  He is also the Managing Partner of Jenner & Block’s New York office.  He concentrates his practice on complex civil litigation and government enforcement matters, including intellectual property and securities disputes.

Partner Terri L. Mascherin will speak on May 20 at a 2:30 p.m. session titled, “Best Practices for Litigation Holds,” which will provide advice for successfully implementing a litigation hold on a global scale, particularly when corporations receive discovery requests that require the halt of document destruction to avoid costly and damaging sanctions.  Ms. Mascherin, who was recognized in 2007 as one of the “50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America” by The National Law Journal, represents businesses in disputes over corporate transactions, partnerships, joint ventures, licenses, and contracts in state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Partner Gabrielle Sigel will speak on May 20 at a 4:15 p.m. session titled, “An Environment of Change,” which will address the latest environmental litigation and regulatory trends, discuss environmental liabilities and provide tips on managing risk.  Ms. Sigel is Co-Chair of the Firm’s Climate and Clean Technology Law Practice.

Partner James L. Thompson and Ms. Masters will speak on May 20 at a 4:15 p.m. session titled, “Sub-Prime Litigation Update,” which will address the fallout surrounding the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage industry and how it continues to spawn litigation and other legal liability issues.  Mr. Thompson is a member of the Firm’s Litigation Department whose practice focuses on representing banks and finance companies facing class actions based on their secured and unsecured lending practices, account handling, and/or collection practices.

Partner David J. Bradford will speak on May 21 at a 10:00 a.m. session titled, “Deals Gone Bad,” which will discuss issues such as state-of-the-art protections to be used in mergers, acquisitions and sales agreements, as well as the material adverse clause post-IBP.  Mr. Bradford is Co-Chair of the Firm's Business Litigation Practice.

Partner Reginald J. Hill will speak on May 21 at an 11:30 a.m. session titled, “Dramatic Changes in Patent Law,” which will discuss proposed legislative changes to the U.S. patent system, particularly in the patent infringement litigation process, and recent Supreme Court decisions with wide ranging effects on patent practice.  Mr. Hill, a member of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice, represents clients in intellectual property litigation involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, right of publicity and unfair competition.

Partner Donald B. Verrilli, Jr. will speak on May 21 at an 11:30 a.m. session titled, “Supreme Court Update,” which will review the most significant decisions of the past year and preview the business cases on the High Court’s docket for the months ahead.  Mr. Verrilli, Co-Chair of its Appellate and Supreme Court Practice, concentrates his practice on Supreme Court and appellate litigation, communications, and First Amendment and media litigation.
