Jenner & Block Partner Dawn L. Smalls will speak to NYU Law School students about different career paths taken by progressive lawyers. She will share insights about her varied career, from government to private practice to her time spent as a candidate for office.
Ms. Smalls is a strategic advisor and multi-disciplinary leader with experience across law, government, politics, and philanthropy. She has served in two presidential administrations and is actively engaged in politics, including running for New York City Public Advocate in a 2019 special election. In her private practice, she has fought for undocumented immigrants, victims of financial crime, and voters facing intimidation. She currently serves on the boards of the Roosevelt Institute and the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. Ms. Smalls also served as a national board member for the American Constitution Society from 2015 to 2021.
