On June 22, 2020, Jenner & Block Partner Ishan K. Bhabha will speak at a “rapid response briefing” that will explore implications of the US Supreme Court’s ruling that saved the DACA program. On June 18, the Court held that the US government’s attempt in 2017 to end DACA was unlawful. Mr. Bhabha was on the firm’s team that represented Princeton University, Maria Perales Sanchez, a Princeton student and DACA recipient, and Microsoft in successfully arguing that the President’s decision to rescind DACA was arbitrary and capricious.
Mr. Bhabha and the other panelists will provide an overview and analysis of the decision; what it means for current and prospective DACA recipients; its impact on colleges and universities; and opportunities for state, federal, and higher education advocacy. In addition to Mr. Bhabha, the panelists will include a DACA recipient as well as President Christopher Eisgruber of Princeton and President Janet Napolitano of the University of California System.
Mr. Bhabha is co-chair of the Education Practice and a member of the Appellate and Supreme Court Practice. He has extensive experience helping organizations navigate complex regulatory structures, both through internal counseling and in representation before courts and administrative agencies.
