“Strategies for Managing Complex Litigation,” Association of Corporate Counsel of New York City

On June 13, Jenner & Block Partners Laura P. MacDonald and Michael W. Ross spoke at the Association of Corporate Counsel’s New York Chapter’s “In-House Counsel Toolkit” CLE event.  Ms. MacDonald and Mr. Ross were joined on the panel by Athena Cheng (Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Office – The Blackstone Group), Amin Kassam (Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel, Bloomberg LP) and Elena Lazarou (Senior Director, Assistant General Counsel – Capital One) for the last session of day, where they discussed ways in-house counsel guide the legal team and others at the company through the litigation process while taking both legal and business aspects into account.  Panelists shared their practices for tackling and integrating complex legal, business and technical issues and offered tips for aligning litigation strategy with corporate strategy.

Ms. MacDonald is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department and a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation, Financial Services Litigation and International Arbitration Practices.  Ms. MacDonald represents companies in complex commercial disputes and class actions spanning a broad range of industries and substantive areas.  In addition to litigation, she has significant experience representing clients in domestic and international commercial arbitrations as well as investor-state arbitrations conducted under AAA, ICC, UNCITRAL and Norwegian rules.

Mr. Ross is a litigation partner in the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation and Securities Litigation Practices and leads the firm’s FinTech industry group.  Mr. Ross represents corporate clients in complex disputes, investigations and regulatory challenges.  He brings a sophisticated understanding of business and good strategic judgment to his client’s most challenging problems.  His practice spans numerous industries and areas of law, with much of his work focusing on financial services, technology and intellectual property.
