“Forecasting the Implications of the US Cloud Act Around the World,” Global Network Initiative

Jenner & Block Partner David Bitkower will participate in a discussion on the potential global implications of the US CLOUD Act.  Enacted in March 2018, the act amends key aspects of US surveillance law to permit US law enforcement to seek electronic data stored abroad, and to permit American technology providers to respond directly to foreign law enforcement data requests in certain circumstances.  Hosted by the Global Network Initiative, the panel will take place on September 18, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC.

Mr. Bitkower is a member of the firm’s Investigation, Compliance and Defense Practice, as well as its Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice.  He is a former Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the US Department of Justice, the second-highest ranking position in the division.  Along with Jenner & Block Associate Natalie Orpett, he co-authored a Client Alert about the new CLOUD Act, which can be read here.
