“Risky (Legal) Business: Avoiding Common Mistakes by Entrepreneurs,” 1871

Jenner & Block Partner Justin C. Steffen and Associates Ren-How H. Harn and Gina B. Lawrence will be presenting a workshop to 1871, a community of entrepreneurs on their path to building high-growth, sustainable businesses that serve as platforms for economic development and civic leadership in Chicago.  They will discuss legal issues about which new and emerging tech entrepreneurs should be aware.  Specifically, the workshop will address three areas: (1) intellectual property issues and protection; (2) incorporations and protecting your business; and (3) regulatory issue-spotting.  The workshop will take place on May 9 from 3:00  to 4:00 p.m. at 222 W. Merchandise Mart Plaza, Chicago, IL 60654.

Mr. Steffen, a partner in the firm’s FinTech Group, represents companies in the financial services industry in navigating the evolving regulatory environment and addressing their dispute resolution needs.  He is particularly focused on the intersection of technology and the financial services industry, including issues pertaining to marketplace lending, cryptocurrency and blockchain and payments.  

Mr. Harn is a litigation associate whose practice focuses on patent litigation in a variety of technologies including genetic engineering, pharmaceuticals, polymers and material science.  

Ms. Lawrence, a corporate associate, represents public and privately held companies on a variety of matters including domestic and cross-border acquisition financing, investment grade lending and other general corporate matters.
