“Protecting The Grid: The Solution Must Be Comprehensive,” The 2nd Generation Cyber Security For Utilities Conference

Jenner & Block Partner Suedeen G. Kelly is presenting at The 2nd Generation Cyber Security For Utilities Conference. She will join a panel titled “Protecting The Grid: The Solution Must Be Comprehensive.”

Panelists will discuss topics such as assessing where improvements and upgrades are needed; developing a collective national plan, driven by Congress and the Administration, in partnership with the full range of infrastructure entities, to drive key short- and long-term grid improvements; establishing improved, consistent and uniform standards for the North American bulk power system that rise to the level of detail and excellence required to meet the threats we face; and identifying public and private funding mechanisms to raise the necessary financing in an equitable manner.

The 2nd Generation Cyber Security For Utilities Conference hosts a series of presentations, sessions and panel discussion that covers current concerns of the cyber security industry, particularly as it relates to utilities. This year’s conference will explore leveraging cyber security to achieve resiliency without compromise; technological and strategic cyber security options for municipal utilities; early detection of threats to operational systems to enhance preparedness; deploying a set of controls to mitigate cyber-attacks; building a real-time incident response plan to eradicate malicious files, software and other harmful threats; analysis of whether to own security operations or to outsource to a third party; monitoring weaknesses exposed by guidelines to identify the main vulnerability areas within the organization; the value of physical and cyber security convergence; and recovery from breakdown.

Ms. Kelly is a highly recognized energy practitioner. She is co-chair of the firm’s Energy Practice and a former commissioner with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The conference takes place November 8-9 at Capitol Skyline Hotel in Washington, DC. Ms. Kelly’s discussion takes place November 9, at 9:05 am.
