Jenner & Block Partner Reid J. Schar will join a panel of practitioners at a seminar sponsored by the Turnaround Management Association’s Chicago/Midwest Chapter.  Titled “Ethics in Turnaround Situations,” the panel will focus on topics on ethical standards and codes of conduct for borrowers, including:

  • Ethics for Different Stakeholders
  • Borrower and Guarantor Issues and Joint Representations
  • Lawyer and Consultant Engagement Letters, Need for Candor, Getting Paid
  • Statutory or Voluntary Ethical Guidelines for CTP's Lawyers, Accountants
  • Guidelines for Lenders and Statutory Concerns:  FCA, FDCPA, CFPB
  • "Lender Liability" Statute of Frauds
  • Criminal Implications:  Need for Additional Counsel, Much More Likely to See Receiver or Trustee; Suspicious Activity Reports; Sentencing Guidelines

Mr. Schar is co-chair of the firm’s Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice.  He advises boards of directors and board committees, and leads domestic and foreign internal investigations.  Mr. Schar has extensive experience handling significant investigative matters, including:  investigation of the General Motors ignition switch recall, the "Bridgegate" matter and prosecuting former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
