American Bar Association Tax Section’s Annual May Meeting

On May 12, Jenner & Block Partner Geoffrey M. Davis and Associate Rafi W. Mottahedeh participated in panel discussions at the ABA Tax Section’s annual May meeting in Washington, D.C., a three-day event that brought together leading US and international tax practitioners and IRS officials.  Mr. Mottahedeh was a speaker on an exciting panel that included IRS officials and other tax professionals examining high-level government appointees’ ability to defer taxes on divested assets when taking office, an issue that has been much in the news with the new Administration.  Mr. Davis was a speaker, along with Randy Curato, vice president-loss prevention at ALAS, on a standards of practice panel addressing ethical issues in preserving and collecting evidence in civil and criminal tax matters.  The firm’s Tax Group routinely handles not only transactional tax matters but also tax controversy matters in administrative and litigation settings, involving federal, state and local taxes.

Mr. Davis is co-chair of Jenner & Block’s Tax Practice.  He has a broad federal tax practice focusing on acquisition and divestiture transactions, restructuring and financing transactions and tax administrative and litigation controversies.

Mr. Mottahedeh is an associate in the Tax Department.  He focuses on a broad range of federal, state and international tax planning and tax controversy matters.
