October 18, 2016

Jenner & Block Partner Adam G. Unikowsky will participate in an interactive panel discussion focusing on 2016’s key federal and state court decisions and legislative developments in LGBT law.  He and other panelists will discuss noteworthy advances and setbacks and analyze emerging trends, while looking forward to what we might see in 2017.  Sponsored by the firm and the LGBT Association of DC, the live CLE event will be held at 4:30 pm (EST) on October 27, 2016, in the firm’s Washington, DC office, 1099 New York Avenue.

Mr. Unikowsky litigates cases in the US Supreme Court, appellate courts, trial courts, and administrative agencies.  At the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr. Unikowsky was lead counsel in two major cases in 2016 and prevailed in both.   One case in particular was prominent in the LGBT community.   In that case, V.L. v. E.L., he obtained an emergency stay, followed by a unanimous reversal on the merits, of a lower-court decision that held an adoption by a same-sex parent invalid.  The ruling restored his client’s legal bond with her children and ensured that other same-sex couples would not be stripped of their parental rights.
