Jenner & Block Partner Jessica Ring Amunson will speak at a training session aimed at arming attendees with the tools and tips necessary to become active members of the voting rights bar.  Sponsored by the Voting Rights Institute, the program will provide an opportunity for new and returning members of the voting rights community to meet and strategize about the challenges to come, particularly in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s 2013 decision in Shelby County v. Holder.  That decision effectively nullified a key provision of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.  The training will provide an overview of voting rights law and recent developments in voting rights cases from across the country.  It will be held from 9 am to noon on September 15, 2016, at Suffolk University Law School in Boston.

As co-chair of the firm’s Election Law and Redistricting Practice, Ms. Amunson represents clients, including elected officials and interest groups, in matters involving redistricting, voting rights, and campaign finance in the U.S. Supreme Court and in courts around the country.  She has litigated election law and redistricting matters in a number of states, including litigation involving disputed elections.  Ms. Amunson has been repeatedly recognized for her extensive knowledge of election law and regularly speaks on panels regarding issues in redistricting and voting rights.  She serves on the Advisory Committee to the Voting Rights Institute.
