Jenner & Block Chairman Anton R. Valukas will be the keynote speaker at the University Club of Chicago’s breakfast program. Titled “AIG - How the Big Short Nearly Caught the World Economy Short,” Mr. Valukas’ presentation will offer insight into the AIG story: what would have been and what was averted. The breakfast will be held on May 17 starting at 7:30 am, with the presentation at 8 am, followed by a question-and-answer session. The University Club of Chicago is at 76 E. Monroe Street.
Mr. Valukas represents many Fortune 500 companies and public entities with regard to conflict of interest, ethics violations and internal corporate investigations. He has extensive experience in representing clients in SEC investigations and in civil securities fraud lawsuits and was lead counsel for General Motors in an SEC investigation and settlement. In 2009, Mr. Valukas was appointed as the examiner in the Lehman Brothers Holdings bankruptcy, reputed to be the largest such case in US history. In addition, he has worked on a wide variety of matters relating to government contracts and issues of fraud and compliance; he has held various positions with the US Department of Justice, including Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chief of the Special Prosecutions Division and First Assistant U. S. Attorney and U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
