Jenner & Block Partner Reid J. Schar will speak at the Newt and Jo Minow Debate Series on the topic of prosecutorial power in the legal system and democracy.  Titled “Debate Topic: U.S. Prosecutors Have Too Much Power,” the event will focus on the national debate over the functioning of the criminal justice system, particularly whether prosecutors have too much power.  Mr. Schar will argue for the opposition.   The event, the first in the newly founded Newt and Jo Minow Debate Series, will be held in partnership with Intelligence Squared Debates and is approved for 1.5 professional responsibility CLE credits.  It will take place at 6:30 p.m. November 10 at the Northwestern School of Law’s Thorne Auditorium, 375 E. Chicago Ave.

Mr. Schar is co-chair of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice.  A former assistant US attorney, he tried more than 20 criminal cases, many involving sophisticated fraud and financing issues.  Clients regularly turn to Mr. Schar with their most significant white collar matters and investigations as well as complex commercial litigation matters.
