Jenner & Block Partner Matthew L. Jacobs was a guest lecturer in the “Insurance Law and Policy” class, taught by Professor Tom Baker at the University of Pennsylvania Law School on Monday, March 30. Mr. Jacobs discussed “the duty to defend and the duty to cooperate.” The course materials included the draft Restatement of the Law of Liability Insurance, an ALI project currently underway for which Professor Baker, one of the country’s leading academics in the field of insurance coverage law, serves as the official reporter. Mr. Jacobs served as a guest lecturer in the same class last year as well, addressing developments on the issue of exhaustion of underlying insurance coverage through below-limits settlements.
Mr. Jacobs is a member of the firm’s Insurance Recovery and Counseling; Reinsurance; and International Arbitration Practices. He has been successfully litigating insurance coverage matters for more than 25 years. He handles complex, multi-party insurance coverage matters in state and federal courts. He also advises companies in the placement and renewal of various types of insurance coverage, including directors and officers policies and cyber insurance. He is regularly recognized by clients and peers in Chambers USA Client’s Guide for Insurance; the Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers; and Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America. He is also listed in The International Who’s Who of Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers, most recently in the 2014 edition where he is named among 750 leading insurance and reinsurance lawyers throughout the world. He publishes and lectures widely on insurance coverage topics and has been quoted extensively on developments in insurance law in national publications, television and radio.
