April 16, 2014

On April 16, 2014, Jenner & Block Partner Matthew L. Jacobs was a guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in the class “Insurance Law and Policy,” taught by Professor Tom Baker. The subject of Matt’s lecture was the exhaustion of underlying insurance coverage through below-limits settlements.  Matt addressed the ongoing development of this issue in insurance law, as based on a recent decision handed down by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and also discussed a case that a Jenner & Block team had won on this issue in the Eastern District of Virginia for client MAXIMUS, in March of 2012.

Matt also participated in a class session with Professor Baker on March 26, 2014, during which they both discussed the issue of an insurance carrier’s duty to defend.
