Associate Nicole A. Allen spoke to the Municipal Court Advisory Council on March 5, 2014, about her experience co-chairing a jury trial as part of the Municipal Court pro bono program.  Recently, Nicole and Of Counsel Marc D. Sokol represented the plaintiff in a breach of warranty case against Kia Motors.  Nicole spoke to the Council about the challenges of being appointed to represent the plaintiff after the close of discovery when key evidence, the car that formed the basis of the plaintiff’s claim, was no longer available for examination.  Nicole also discussed the benefits of participating in the program both for litigants who would otherwise proceed pro se and for attorneys who volunteer to represent them.  The Municipal Court Advisory Council consists of approximately 60 judges, lawyers, clerks, and Sheriff Department personnel from the First Municipal District.

Nicole is a member of Jenner & Block’s Litigation Department and its Complex Bankruptcy Litigation, Markets and Trading, and Securities Litigation and Enforcement Practices.  She focuses her practice on government investigations and enforcement actions and complex financial litigation.  She has represented clients in white collar criminal defense matters; investigations initiated by the Department of Justice, IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and Department of Treasury; enforcement actions brought by the SEC; and in civil litigation matters involving alleged insider trading, securities fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.  Nicole has been recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in white collar criminal defense in 2012, 2013, and 2014.  In 2011 and 2012, the National Association of Professional Women named her “Professional Woman of the Year.”
