Jenner & Block Of Counsel Richard J. Gray spoke at a recent meeting of the Chicago Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. Titled “Seeking a Single Settlement of Numerous Party Claims: The Experience of a ‘Settlement Special Master’,” Rich’s presentation explored the challenges of settling claims brought by inmates of the Illinois Department of Corrections who charge that the Department and its medical contractors are deliberately indifferent to their Hepatitis C medical needs. There are five pending cases and over 600 inmate claimants. Rich offered insight into his approach to settling the matters. His presentation was held on February 6, 2014.
Rich is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice who has significant experience litigating intellectual property issues, including use of procedures available before the US PTO, and antitrust and consumer class actions involving the telecommunications industry. In 2014, he began serving a two-year term as president of the Board of Directors of the TechLaw Group, one of the oldest international networks of law firms with strong technology-related practices.
