"Resolving Reinsurance Disputes at Home and Abroad: Developing the Case and Providing It at Trial or a Hearing," American Bar Association Section of Litigation Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee Mid-Year Meeting, Tucson, AZ

Jenner & Block Partners John H. Mathias, Jr., Kali N. Bracey and David M. Greenwald and Associate Eamon P. Kelly recently spoke at the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee midyear meeting in Tucson, AZ.  The meeting is attended by many of “the Nation’s top insurance company and policyholder counsel” and features “top speakers” in discussions about current insurance issues with a particular focus on litigation.

Mr. Mathias spoke on “What’s Wrong With Arbitration” and discussed  the ethical issues that may arise during an insurance and reinsurance arbitration.   Mr. Mathias a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department.  He is chair of the firm’s nationally prominent Insurance Litigation and Counseling Practice. He is also a member of the Firm's Reinsurance, International Arbitration, Complex Commercial Litigation, Class Action, and Labor and Employment Practices.   Mr. Mathias is a veteran trial lawyer concentrating on complex business litigation with particular emphasis upon contract litigation, insurance coverage litigation, reinsurance arbitrations, class actions, employment litigation, directors and officers litigation, professional liability litigation, and intellectual property litigation.  

Ms. Bracey spoke on “Doing Right and Doing Well – Ethical Rules as a Boon to Practice” and discussed the practical reasons underlying ethical rules of particular importance to coverage lawyers.   Ms. Bracey is a partner in Jenner & Block’s Washington, DC office and is a member of the Firm’s Litigation Department and its Insurance Litigation and Counseling, and Reinsurance Practices.  Ms. Bracey works on behalf of policyholders in insurance coverage disputes related to coverage for complex construction and environmental matters, mold, and lead paint.  She has experience with D&O, commercial general liability, and first party property coverage. 

Mr. Greenwald participated in and moderated “Resolving Reinsurance Disputes at Home and Abroad: Developing the Case and Proving It at Trial or a Hearing,” a discussion of the procedural and cultural differences in arbitrating and litigating reinsurance disputes in the US, the UK, and Bermuda.  Mr. Greenwald is a partner in Jenner & Block’s Chicago office.  He is co-chair of the firm’s Reinsurance Practice, and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Insurance Litigation and Counseling, and Domestic and International Arbitration, and Bankruptcy Practices.  Mr. Greenwald is the editor of the firm's Attorney-Client Privilege Update online resource center, which provides regular reports on this legal issue. Mr. Greenwald is an accomplished trial lawyer concentrating on business litigation with particular emphasis on reinsurance arbitrations and litigation, derivatives litigation, domestic and international arbitrations, bankruptcy litigation, internal investigations and government contracts litigation.

Ms. Kelly spoke on “Insurance Issues Arising from the Gulf Oil Spill” during a ticketed roundtable luncheon program.  Mr. Kelly is an associate in Jenner & Block's Chicago office.  He is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department.  Prior to attending law school, Mr. Kelly worked as the chief-of-staff of the Illinois State Board of Education and as an aide in the Illinois Governor’s Office.
