Minority Corporate Counsel Association 2013 Pathways to Diversity Conference

Jenner & Block Partner David W. DeBruin spoke at the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) 2013 Pathways to Diversity Conference.  David participated in a plenary session that explored implications of the Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin case that concerns the University’s affirmative action admission policy.  In June, the U.S. Supreme Court vacated the Fifth Circuit’s ruling that had upheld the legality of the policy and remanded the case for further consideration.  On September 14, the plaintiffs appealed to the Fifth Circuit for a final order and judgment.  David presented a paper he wrote on the matter and discussed issues such as the impact of the decision on other litigation and strategies that employers are using to strengthen and diversify the talent pipeline.  The Conference was held September 16, 2013, in New York.

David is managing partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.  Clients seek his counsel primarily on complex Supreme Court and appellate litigation and on securities fraud and white collar criminal defense matters.
