Jenner & Block Partner Thomas C. Newkirk,  joined by Michael Dicke, Associate Regional Enforcement Director in the SEC’s San Francisco office,  spoke at The SEC Institute, Inc.’s “27thMidyear SEC Reporting & FASB Forumin San Francisco on June 25.  The title of the presentation was “Securities Litigation and SEC  Enforcement.”  Mr. Newkirk presented to 225 corporate officers and auditors and the discussion focused on current SEC Enforcement accounting and FCPA developments, whistleblowers and how to protect one’s company and oneself from getting enmeshed in an SEC investigation and what to do if one does get involved in an investigation.

Mr. Newkirk is Co-Chair of the Securities Litigation Practice and is a member of the Securities Practice and the Subprime Litigation Task Force.  Before joining Jenner & Block, Mr. Newkirk was a senior official with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for 19 years, including as Associate Director of the Division of Enforcement, in which capacity he led the investigations of some of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s most significant cases.  He has been recognized by Chambers USA, Washington DC Super Lawyers, Washingtonian Magazine and Legal Times as one of the country’s leading lawyers in the areas of securities litigation and corporate governance.
