Partners Jolene Negre, Justin Steffen and Todd Toral Recognized as National Law Journal“Cryptocurrency Trailblazers”

The National Law Journal recognized Jenner & Block Partners Jolene E. Negre, Justin C. Steffen and Todd C. Toral in its inaugural list of “Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and FinTech Trailblazers.”  The list spotlights individuals who “are making great strides as finance and technology grow more and more entwined” and “who have truly ‘moved the needle’ in facilitating these new technologies and digital currencies.”

The publication’s profile of Ms. Negre notes that her securities and mergers and acquisitions clients moved her in the direction of handling matters involving blockchain technology and cryptocurrency assets.  She shares that “developments in fintech are bringing dramatic changes in areas as diverse as lending, payments, trading and insurance” that require her to analyze groundbreaking issues deeply and collaborate with her colleagues to ensure that clients “are able to bring a great product to market.”

Mr. Steffen notes in his profile that he is a “life-long learner” who enjoys studying up on technology to be able represent lenders and financial services companies with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. “You have to be able to understand the basics of new technology to come up with the creative ideas that help clients,” he says.

Mr. Toral’s profile spotlights his work as lead counsel on the first case filed in the United States seeking valuation of cryptocurrencies, which will help dictate how other courts interpret standards in cryptocurrency-related disputes and apply them to future lawsuits.  Mr. Toral represents an investor who sued a cryptocurrency hedge fund for refusing to grant access to its accounting records, and notes in the profile that cases like his are “helping to bring the clarity and accountability that investors need for cryptocurrency funds and exchanges.”
