Eighteen Lawyers Win Northern District of Illinois Pro Bono Award
The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association has awarded 18 of our lawyers with the 2018 Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service for “providing outstanding pro bono and public interest representation in civil and criminal matters before the district court.” The nineteenth annual award ceremony will take place on May 1, with the President of the Federal Bar Association Kip T. Bollin as the keynote speaker. The award recipients were recognized for successfully completing three different cases:
In Tolbert v. Colvin
, we represented the plaintiff in successfully awarding her many years of much-needed back payments of disability benefits and reversing the decision of the administrative law judge, who had twice denied her claims. In Tucker v. Wexford
, we represented Tucker in damages sought against Wexford Health Sources, Inc. for inadequate and untimely medical care after a six-year delay in diagnosing and treating his glaucoma, which caused severe damage to his vision. The lawyers receiving this award for this matter are Jenner & Block Partners Robert L. Byman
and Jennifer S. Senior and Associate Roni J. Cohen.
In Luellen v. Schwartz
, we represented Luellen in a Section 1983 matter that spanned two years and involved an incarcerated individual who filed suit alleging, among other things, that he was unable to receive adequate medical treatment to alleviate a post-operative condition.
