Jenner & Block Partner Emily Chapuis is recognized in the LGBT Bar Association’s 2018 list of the “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40.” The LGBT Bar established the award to recognize outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal professionals under age 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a commitment to LGBT equality. Ms. Chapuis will be among the honorees recognized at an awards lunch on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in Washington, DC.
Ms. Chapuis is a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation practice group. Her work focuses on high-stakes copyright and hospitality-related matters. Ms. Chapuis has litigated cases at the state and federal levels, including in the United States Supreme Court, as well as before federal agencies.
Ms. Chapuis regularly works on matters involving LGBT rights. She has drafted amicus briefs in dozens of marriage equality cases in the Supreme Court and appellate courts across the country. Last term, Ms. Chapuis represented the American Psychological Association and National Association of Social Workers in filing an amicus brief in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado, a landmark Supreme Court case affecting LGBT rights.
Within the firm, Ms. Chapuis is a leader of the LGBT Forum affinity group, which she co-chairs. She served for several years on as an associate board member of the firm's Diversity and Inclusion Committee. An advocate of inclusive policies within the firm, she is also part of the Transgender Inclusion Working Group, which aims to ensure that Jenner & Block remains at the forefront of LGBT issues.
