Jenner & Block Partners Richard L. Stone and Andrew J. “A.J.” Thomas have been selected to be included in a Daily Journal “Entertainment Law” special report and are profiled in a supplement that was published on November 5, 2014.  They are among only 50 attorneys who were identified by the Daily Journal as “California’s best entertainment lawyers” and “key dealmakers and litigators who are rapidly reshaping the movies, music and game businesses.”

Mr. Stone’s profile focuses on his representation of Fox Broadcasting Company in its copyright infringement suit against Aereo, resulting in this past summer’s U.S. Supreme Court win for Fox and other major broadcasters, and the similar dispute between Fox and Dish Network that is presently being litigated in federal court in California.  It also mentions his involvement in music industry litigation, specifically his representation of SoundExchange in a lawsuit filed by Sirius XM Radio in the Southern District of New York regarding royalty payment rates.

Mr. Thomas’ profile notes his representation of Fox in the Aereo and Dish matters and his representation of Warner Bros. Entertainment and NBC Universal on multiple copyright matters.  As an example of these, it highlights Mr. Thomas’ success in obtaining an injunction for Warner Bros. that prevented distribution by a low-budget filmmaker of its movie Age of the Hobbits or using any mark that is similar to Warner Bros. blockbuster film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, or any of the titles in The Hobbit film trilogy.  The Ninth Circuit affirmed the injunction, and the case ultimately settled.

Mr. Stone is co-chair of Jenner & Block’s nationally recognized Content, Media & Entertainment Practice.  His previous recognitions by the Daily Journal include “Top 100 Lawyers in California” and a “Top IP Litigator in California” in 2013 and 2014.  For the last three consecutive years, The Hollywood Reporter has selected him as one of the top 100 entertainment “Power Lawyers” in America.  In addition, in 2013, Law360 named him a “Media & Entertainment MVP.”

Mr. Thomas is a member of the firm’s Content, Media & Entertainment Practice.  Chambers USA has consistently named him a leading California media and entertainment litigation lawyer, and the Los Angeles Business Journal recognized him as a top entertainment lawyer in its 2010 edition of Who's Who in L.A. Law.  Mr. Thomas has also been identified as a Southern California Super Lawyer in business and intellectual property litigation.
