Partner Adam Unikowsky and Partner Patrick Pearsall Named to LGBT Bar’s “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” List

Jenner & Block Partners Adam G. Unikowsky and Patrick W. Pearsall are recognized in the LGBT Bar Association’s 2017 list of the “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40.”  The LGBT Bar established the award to recognize outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal professionals under age 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a commitment to LGBT equality.

Other Jenner & Block lawyers to earn this honor include Partners Matthew D. Cipolla, Lindsay C. Harrison, Luke C. Platzer and Scott B. Wilkens.

Mr. Unikowsky and Mr. Pearsall will be among the honorees recognized at an awards lunch on August 3, 2017.

Mr. Unikowsky litigates cases in the US Supreme Court, appellate courts, trial courts and administrative agencies.   In 2017, he presented three oral arguments before the Court between March 20 and April 18 and won each case.  In 2016, he was lead counsel in two major cases and prevailed in both.  One case in particular was prominent in the LGBT community.   In that case, V.L. v. E.L., he obtained an emergency stay, followed by a unanimous reversal on the merits, of a lower-court decision that held an adoption by a same-sex parent invalid.   The ruling restored his client’s legal bond with her children and ensured that other same-sex couples would not be stripped of their parental rights.

Mr. Pearsall is the chair of the firm’s Public International Law Practice.  He has extensive experience representing sovereigns and investors in multi-billion dollar international disputes.  Before  joining the firm in 2017, he served as the chief of Investment Arbitration for the United States from 2015-2017.  In that role, he litigated claims brought under treaties and free trade agreements including the NAFTA and the CAFTA-DR.
