Matt Cipolla Selected as One of the “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40”

Jenner & Block Partner Matthew D. Cipolla has been named one of the 2016 “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association.  The award recognizes “outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal professionals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.”  Mr. Cipolla and the other recipients will be honored at an awards luncheon on Friday, August 5, 2016 in Washington, DC.

Mr. Cipolla was recognized with the award due to his steadfast commitment to advocacy for LGBT rights and his particular emphasis on LGBT health and HIV/AIDS.  In 2010, he was awarded a Safe Haven Award from Immigration Equality for his representation of LGBT asylum seekers who faced persecution due to their sexual orientation and HIV status in their native countries, including India, Jamaica, and Russia.  Mr. Cipolla was among a team of lawyers recognized for their high quality, complex work on a number of cases involving the asylum applicants, representing several of them at the asylum office, immigration court and Board of Immigration Appeals levels. He has also conducted human rights investigations and engaged in health advocacy and development work in Papua New Guinea and Cambodia. In addition, he also serves as board member for the Face-to-Face AIDS Project (F2F) which promotes HIV awareness in Malawi and Cambodia and helps integrate HIV-positive individuals there into the community, including sponsoring youth groups for HIV-positive adolescents as well as supporting an HIV-positive youth soccer team, the Rising Stars.

Mr. Cipolla is a partner in the Litigation Department of the firm as well as a member of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice. He has extensive experience representing both corporations and individuals in criminal and regulatory matters whether before the United States Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, or New York state and local prosecutors’ offices. In addition, he also conducts internal investigations and provides counsel for attendant civil litigations.

Mr. Cipolla joins Partners Lindsay C. Harrison, Luke C. Platzer, and Scott Wilkens who have all been recognized by the National LGBT Bar Association for the award in previous years.
