Jenner & Block’s Washington, DC office was recognized as a leading law firm for pro bono service at the “40 at 50” Judicial Pro Bono Recognition Breakfast held on April 21, 2016. The annual event, sponsored by the DC Circuit Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services, honored local law firms in which at least 40 percent of all lawyers dedicated 50 or more hours in 2015 to providing free legal representation to individuals with limited financial resources or to charitable organizations.
Supreme Court nominee and DC Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Merrick Garland spoke at the event, noting that, “Without legal assistance, poor individuals and families have no real access to justice. Without access to justice, the promise of equal justice rings hollow.”
The firm, along with just four others, was acknowledged for having had at least 60 percent of lawyers perform 50 or more pro bono hours. This recognition marks the 14th consecutive year that Jenner & Block’s DC office has been honored for its commitment to pro bono efforts– every year since the Recognition Breakfast was instituted.
