Jenner & Block has been named the 2016 US Regional/Copyright East “Firm of the Year” by Managing Intellectual Property. After besting eight other firms that were shortlisted for the honor, Partners Steven R. Englund and David A. Handzo accepted the award on behalf of the firm at Managing IP’s North America Awards Ceremony at the Four Seasons in Washington, DC, on March 17.
The firm’s often recognized Content, Media & Entertainment group remains at the forefront of copyright and content protection law with many ongoing high-profile cases and numerous significant wins to its name. Recent successes include protecting Fox and other broadcasters from further copyright infringement by Aereo and other online TV programming retransmitters, after the broadcasters’ win against Aereo in the US Supreme Court; securing several significant victories for rapper Jay Z in copyright infringement disputes; obtaining one of New York’s top 25 verdicts of 2014 for EMI Recorded Music, in its infringement case against MP3tunes; winning a resounding victory for UMG, Sony Music and Warner Music in their lawsuit against Grooveshark song-streaming service; and obtaining a dismissal with prejudice for firm client, the Estate of Elaine Steinbeck, in the latest copyright suit brought by John Steinbeck’s son and granddaughter.
An article about the awards and the winners will be published in the May issue of Managing IP.
