Jenner & Block Partners Richard L. Stone and Amy M. Gallegos have been selected to receive this year’s prestigious California Lawyer Attorney of the Year (CLAY) awards. Only 62 attorneys across the state were honored with the 2015 awards, which recognize legal work that had “significant impact” during the preceding year.
Mr. Stone and Ms. Gallegos were noted in the area of intellectual property, for the U.S. Supreme Court win they and their team attained for the firm’s television broadcast clients in their high-profile copyright infringement case against online streaming service Aereo, Inc. On June 25, 2014, the Court announced its 6-3 decision in favor of the broadcasting companies, ruling that Aereo’s retransmission of copyrighted over-the-air television programming without broadcaster authorization is a violation of copyright law.
This significant victory for the broadcasters was one of 27 achievements in 17 areas of practice that were chosen for the 2015 CLAY Awards, which is the publication’s 19th annual listing.
A write-up about Mr. Stone and Ms. Gallegos’ representation of the broadcasters was published in the March 2015 issue of California Lawyer. The article also noted that Partners Kenneth D. Klein and Julie A. Shepard were members of the ABC, et al. v. Aereo team.
