Jenner & Block has been named to The National Law Journal’s “Appellate Hot List” for the fourth consecutive year. The publication’s annual list recognized law firms that made “exemplary contributions to appellate practice during the year” and had “at least one significant appellate win between May 2011 and May 2012” and an “impressive track record overall.”
The NLJ noted that, despite losing star appellate advocate Donald Verrilli Jr. to the Obama administration in 2009, the Firm’s Appellate and Supreme Court Practice has “held its own and has continued to pull in top-tier work.” The publication highlighted a number of the Firm’s recent victories, citing:
The story also highlighted Partner Barry Levenstam’s work persuading the Second Circuit to uphold a $431 million arbitration award to client STMicroelectronics N.V., arising out of a dispute with Credit Suisse Securities LLC over compensation for losses from fraudulent investments, as well as Partner John H. Mathias, Jr.’s win for trucking giant CRST Van Expedited Inc., defeating an appeal by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission before the Eighth Circuit. The EEOC sought millions of dollars in damages and changes to the company's work policies to remedy alleged sexual harassment of CRST’s female long-haul truck drivers.
