Training & Development

Our orientation programs are designed to set you up for success at the firm. They include a combination of skill-building and networking activities and provide a support framework for your initial months at Jenner & Block.

New Associate Orientation
New associates participate in an intensive multi-day orientation program in our Chicago office. Associates starting in Los Angeles, New York City or Washington, DC are invited to attend the Chicago orientation. The program includes foundational skill-building sessions, such as basic writing and drafting, a comprehensive legal ethics program and sessions on time management, firm resources and law firm accounting. New associates also hear from firm leaders and from mid-level and senior associates who help them understand their role at the firm. Orientation also includes a diversity awareness training program in which all our new attorneys, including experienced attorneys, participate.

Lateral Orientation
Once an offer is extended to a lateral candidate, one of our Lateral Orientation Program coordinators will contact the candidate to answer any initial questions about the firm’s culture, history or policies, as well as the typical workload or assignments to expect. Upon acceptance of an offer, an associate is assigned a Lateral Contact. These individuals are responsible for organizing welcome lunches and checking in with new laterals during their first three months.  Lateral hires participate in a diversity awareness training program, and quarterly luncheon meetings are held to help our new experienced attorneys get to know each other. The Lateral Orientation Program coordinators also host informal offsite lunches to promote networking and provide support.
